Hitting a wall is bullseye?
Over the past months, I’ve been hitting a wall, exacerbating my confidence via grant and full-time job applications. Eventually, I went ‘woman down’ for a few beats. Then, I had to get up. Facing the wall I cannot run through, I’ve decided to use it to my advantage. Now, I’m pricking the wall with my push pins like a voodoo doll, full of new thoughts and inspiration I began piecing together while down at rock bottom.
Admittedly, I listened to this song more than a few times:
I’ve recently started a part-time job and am still creating Squarespace websites for folks. Now, using the industrial machine I purchased via Tiny Grant, which I mentioned last loveMELT, and to keep my ‘Minding Living Rooms’ concept for a large body of work alive, I’m manipulating materials, extrapolating on the idea of transformable textiles, and creating custom, playful interior and wearable pieces. However, these pieces will be intentionally made to sell rather than to exhibit/perform first.
I’m currently prototyping a collection of goods and calling it ‘loveMELTed’, melting together my love and experience in both art and design to create unique objects for the home and walkabouts. Why the ‘ed’ on the end of loveMELT? I’m playing on the idea of ‘editions’ that artists use when creating a limited edition of prints etc., typically signaling friendlier price points.
For me, this is like a gateway drug into the work I’m exploring creatively. In my ideal world, I’d have an interdisciplinary studio where we craft art and abstract design and have the freedom to work at any scale. There are no lines between art and design and what we make. Some of it’s considered ‘art’, some of it ‘design’, but we’re not held to one thing, and many of the pieces are malleable, living as an in-between, which a lot of my creative concepts touch upon.
I’ve just started playing and got a few things going, with more to come. Check out the video to sneak a peek.
So, what do you want to see my spin on? Seriously, let me know (“keep in mind, I’m an artist, I’m sensitive about my shit” – Erykah Badu)

I’ve just started researching potential pop-ups, events, and markets to share this new stuff, in addition to online. Have any ideas or recs? A penny for your thoughts.
I seek the periphery That’s where exotic lives The play-dough of worlds and undefined circumstance Where creation and being are one in the same and trajectory flows without dictation Where identity melds rather than towers
Currently wondering how many lives guinea pigs have. Hopefully…a lot.

PS– Every so often, I share a playlist I’ve made with you. However, this loveMELT, I’m sharing NTS Radio. I’ve been a fan for years, but have been listening to it nonstop lately. If you’re not familiar, download the app and check out the live sessions, discovery, and mixtapes. I find a lot of good music on it. All genres included.
