loveMELT #038: Storytime and A Morning Update

READ BEFORE WATCHING

As you may know, I’m transitioning my apartment into a full creative space. There’s more to do, but my living room can now better function as a studio. This is also why I’m sitting on the floor. However, I think that’s fitting for what we’re about to do.

In moving things out and rearranging, I went through my books, including the exhibition book I made, ‘Babygirl–A Rite of Passage’. In going back through it, I realized it had something more to say to me, which often happens in art. I made this book diary-like, filled it with poems, and wrote notes to my imagined daughter. Essentially, this was to ask, “How are we impacting future generations through the way we’re currently living?”. What is now sinking in is that a lot of this art and writing is my inner child making itself known, directly confronting me, as much as I’ve tried covering it up, compartmentalizing it, and sequestering it over the years.

So, to honor my inner child and hopefully speak with yours, I’m going to read this book aloud to you. Consider this a bedtime story or a storytime break. If you’re interested in reading ‘Babygirl–A Rite of Passage’ for yourself, I have a few left. Reach out to me.

Artist Journey: A Morning Update

PS — If you missed the last loveMELT, I wrote about the future of fiber art. You may or may not agree with all my points, but I think you’ll find it interesting.

loveMELT #037: The Future of Fiber Art

“The Future of Fiber Art” examines the rise of fiber and alternative media in fine art, the art market’s commercialization, and shifting audience engagement. It challenges perceptions, urging institutions, galleries, collectors, and artists to embrace inclusivity, and risk-taking in shaping the future of art.
